Viscount is in the process is acquiring a new and updated water treatment plant in 2009. Safe and tasty drinking water is important for a vibrant community. Water in Viscount comes from the South Saskatchewan River, although, if you look on a map, the river is very far away. Water from the river is diverted from Diefenbaker Lake, through a series of canals and resevoirs to the Potash mines east of Saskatoon. Viscount then draws its water from the resevoir at Zelma.
Residents of Viscount will have increased water rates to help fund the project, but having a safe supply of drinking water is well worth it.
